Students follow a programme of postures which extend and align the body, open the joints, lengthen the muscles and create space in the body for better breathing and organ function. Postures are taught safely with more difficult postures gradually introduced as stamina and flexibility improve. You will only try difficult poses when you are ready, but you will be encouraged to extend your own capacity. Yoga helps you to feel better in your present state, but it is also a process of development and transformation. Be ready for change. Classes are done in bare feet and end with relaxation. Please call Ali to discuss any health problems before coming to class. Mats and equipment are available to borrow but students need to bring a blanket.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR CLASS
• wear unrestrictive clothing that allows easy movement, but that is not too baggy (shorts or leggings and t shirt are ideal) This is because it is helpful for the teacher to be able to see your knees and ankles. Pus a warm jumper for relaxation.
• be ready to work in bare feet
• yoga should be practised on an empty stomach – 2 hrs after snack or 4 hrs after large meal
• Bring a blanket
• Bring a non-slip mat if you have one

MEDICAL PROBLEMS
Yoga is extremely helpful for many ailments and problems. Please note I cannot teach people with the following medical conditions
• Heart problems (including hypertension)
• Epilepsy (including petit mal)
• Cancer or benign tumours
• Diabetes
• Menieres disease
• Detached retina
• HIV/AIDS
• Multiple Sclerosis
• ME (chronic fatigue)
• Severe Mental health problems
• Recent major surgery
• Severe back or neck injuries
• Pregnancy – unless already a student of mine
This is because public classes are moderately energetic for part of the session and some of the postures may not be helpful. Such conditions may benefit from an individual therapeutic programme. Please contact SALLIE SULLIVAN, a Lewes based senior yoga teacher to discuss. Sallie also teaches pregnancy classes.

Health is firmness in body, stability in mind, and clarity in thinking. If a mirror is clean, it reflects objects clearly….. Health is the mirror of mind
